An insight to who I am and what I do...

I'd like to welcome you to my blog to share with you some things I've done throughout the years as a teacher and also some of my passions.

I graduated from the University of Malta in 1998 and had several different experiences as a teacher since then. My teaching venture started at Paola Primary B with a Year 4 mix-ed ability class. I spent  three years there and after sitting for a post-graduate diploma in IT in Primary education, I moved on to work as an ICT Peripatetic teacher. Later I moved to ICT Support where I was more involved in teacher training and resource creation. I spent the last three years in this post as an eTwinning Coordinator. eTwinning is a community of schools in Europe. My main task here was to promote the use of its platform for project work among Maltese schools and classrooms in collaboration with European ones. I was also in charge of writing the yearly workplan and budget plan and later writing the final report to the European Commission. (Read more: Past Jobs)

After a 3-year career break, I've been teaching a Year 6 class at St. Thomas More College Marsaskala St. Anne's Primary School since 2014. The current year has been a challenging one where all of a sudden I found myself away from my students and had to quickly adapt my teaching method to go online. I believe I managed to do so quite smoothly and was also invited by the EO Digital Literacy to share my experience with others during a webinar. (Read more: Covid-19 Online Teaching)

Teaching and learning are my greatest passion. I also love coming up with new creative ways to make my students enjoy what they are learning and try to instill in them the urge to keep investigating and experimenting. I love project work and believe that the students are more attracted to learning if the work is authenticated in a real-life situation. Every year I register eTwinning projects with partners from different parts of Europe to give my students real audience for their work and also provide them with new insights of being European citizens. (Read more: eTwinning Projects). I also participate in Dinja Wahda and Ekoskola initiatives within my school and offer to help in the Sports flag initiative too. Through project work I also won a number of awards. In 2018 I placed first in the EMBED awards for Online Learning. I was also given several eTwinning Quality Labels. (Read more: Awards)

At my school I am also a teacher representative in the School Council. We meet to discuss activities for our students every month and I help in the organization and dissemination of events within the school.

Apart from teaching I also love to volunteer in my community and currently I have been leading the group of altar boys since 2014. We hold a weekly meeting with the altar boys where I guide the elder altar boys to train the younger ones. I also take care of the organization of outings and liase with the seamstress for the sewing of their service attire. (Read more: Voluntary Work)
